Amazon Fee Calculator UK

Amazon’s UK referral fee is a percentage of the item price, the delivery you charge, and any gift wrap — never VAT. And on a small sale it isn’t just a percentage: most categories carry a £0.25 minimum, and Amazon charges whichever is greater.

Add £25.00/month (excl. VAT) for the Professional subscription — it does not depend on this sale.

Amazon’s only worked example: £10.00 at 15% is a £1.50 referral fee. It proves the percentage, not what you keep — Amazon never works a full sale through. The £25.00 sale above is a starting point, not a figure Amazon quotes. Change any field to run your own.

Amazon's referral fee is charged on this, the delivery you charge, and any gift wrap — never on VAT.

Counts toward the fee base, the same as the item price.

Also counts — it's easy to forget.

What else changes what you keep

Not an Amazon fee — taken off what you keep.

What you paid for it. Amazon never sees this — it turns what you keep into what you made.

From what you keep to what you made

What’s left after fees is not your profit — it is your revenue minus Amazon’s cut. Fill in what the item cost you and the receipt switches: it shows the profit on that sale, and the margin it represents on what you charged the buyer. Leave it empty and nothing changes.

The fees that don’t depend on the category

The minimum
£0.25 on most categories — the floor a low-priced sale hits before the percentage would, shown per category above. 6 categories have none at all.
Fee base
The item price, any delivery and any gift wrapping charges — Amazon says so directly, and adds that the fee is charged excluding any taxes.
Selling plan
Individual costs £0.75 per item sold. Professional costs £25.00 per month, however much you sell. Amazon publishes both excluding VAT.
Closing fee
Amazon publishes none in its UK fee schedule — unlike its US one, where media items carry one on top of the referral fee.

Common questions

How much does Amazon take from a £100 sale in the UK?

£15.00 in Home Products, leaving you £85.00. That is the referral fee only — FBA pick, pack and storage are charged on weight and size, not on the price, and are not part of this figure.

How much does Amazon take in seller fees in the UK?

The referral fee runs from 5% to 45% depending on the category, across the 52 categories Amazon prices for the UK. Most categories also carry a minimum of £0.25 per item, and Amazon charges whichever is greater — never both.

Why did my Amazon fee jump between £20 and £25?

Because Home Products is priced on a threshold, not on tiers. A £20 sale is charged £1.60, and a £25 one is charged £3.75 — the higher rate applies to the whole sale, not just the part beyond the cut-off. Amazon writes it as "for items priced at or up to", which reads much like the wording it uses for tiers.

Does Amazon charge its UK referral fee on VAT?

No. Amazon states the referral fee is "a percentage of the total price of your product excluding any taxes", and defines that total as the item price plus any delivery or gift wrapping charges. That is the opposite of Etsy, which charges non-US sellers on the VAT-inclusive listing price.

Is the £25 Professional plan the full cost?

No — Amazon publishes it as £25.00 per month excluding VAT, and the Individual plan as £0.75 per item sold excluding VAT. This calculator uses the figures exactly as Amazon publishes them. Amazon does not state whether VAT applies to the referral fee itself, so nothing is added there.

Does Amazon publish a worked example of its UK fees?

One, and it is partial. In its refunds section Amazon writes that £10.00 at 15% gives a £1.50 referral fee. It proves the percentage and stops there — Amazon never works a full sale through to what the seller keeps.

This is not your Seller Central statement. It covers the referral fee only — not FBA pick, pack, storage or removal fees, which depend on weight and dimensions rather than price. Amazon warns that a product’s fee category may not match the category customers see in the store, so check yours in Seller Central. Amazon publishes its selling plan prices excluding VAT, and says nothing about VAT on the referral fee itself — nothing is added here for it. Check your account for the amounts actually charged.
