Etsy Fee Calculator UK

Etsy charges a UK seller a Regulatory Operating fee that a US seller never pays, processes payments at a different rate, and — unlike in the US — charges its commission on your price with the VAT still in it. A calculator built on the US schedule gets all three wrong.

Etsy publishes no worked example, so this is a plain £100 item to start from — not a figure Etsy quotes. Change any field to run your own.

Include VAT if you charge it — Etsy says its transaction fee applies to the price you display, taxes and all.

All three Etsy fees apply to this too.

What changes the fees
What the sale costs you

Not an Etsy fee — taken off what you keep.

What you paid for it. Etsy never sees this — it turns what you keep into what you made.

What you keep at each item price, no shipping or gift wrapping

The processing fee has a fixed part, so it weighs far more on a small sale than on a big one.

From what you keep to what you made

What’s left after fees is not your profit — it is your revenue minus Etsy’s cut. Fill in what the item cost you and the receipt switches: it shows the profit on that sale, and the margin it represents on what the sale brought in. Leave it empty and nothing changes.

Etsy’s UK fees, line by line

The transaction fee and the Regulatory Operating fee come from Etsy’s Fees & Payments Policy and its Regulatory Operating Fee article. Payment processing comes from a separate document — Etsy’s Payments Policy — and is set by the payout country on the seller’s account, not by where the buyer is. This page uses the United Kingdom rate.
FeeRateWhat it applies to
Transaction fee6.5%The price you display — VAT included if you charge it — plus shipping and gift wrapping.
Regulatory Operating fee0.48%The same order total as the transaction fee. Charged only in a set of countries Etsy names — the UK is one of them.
Payment processing (UK payout)4% + £0.20The same order total again.
Currency conversion+2.5%Added to the processing rate above when the buyer's currency differs from the seller's payout currency.

What the calculator does not cover

The listing fee
Etsy publishes it as $0.20, and converts it to pounds at the market rate on the day it is charged. There is no published pound amount, so this receipt leaves it out rather than invent an exchange rate.
VAT on Etsy’s fees
Etsy charges VAT on its own seller fees unless you have given it a VAT ID — and it publishes no rate for it. This calculator names the charge rather than guess at it. If you are not VAT-registered, your real cost is a little higher than the figure above.
Offsite Ads
Etsy sets both the rate threshold and the per-order cap in US dollars. Applying either one to a pound sale would take an exchange rate we would have to make up, so this page leaves the fee out.

Common questions

How much does Etsy take in the UK?

Three fees on the price you display: 6.5% transaction fee, 0.48% Regulatory Operating fee, and 4% plus £0.20 to process the payment. On a £100 order that comes to £11.18 in total, leaving you £88.82.

What is Etsy's Regulatory Operating fee?

A charge of 0.48% that Etsy adds on top of the transaction fee, on the same order total, in a set of countries it names — the UK among them. A seller in the United States never pays it: on a £100 order that's an extra £0.48 a US seller's bill never carries.

Does Etsy charge VAT on its own fees?

Yes, unless the seller has given Etsy a VAT ID — in which case the charge no longer applies. Etsy publishes no rate for it, so this calculator names the charge rather than guess at a figure: a seller who isn't VAT-registered pays a little more than this calculator's totals show.

Why doesn't this calculator include Etsy's listing fee?

Etsy publishes it in US dollars, twenty cents a listing, for every seller including its UK ones, and converts it to pounds at the market rate on the day it is charged. There is no published pound amount to calculate from, so this calculator leaves the fee out rather than invent an exchange rate.

This is not your Etsy payment account statement. It covers the standard UK seller fees — the transaction fee, the Regulatory Operating fee and payment processing — not Etsy Plus or Pattern subscriptions, not refund or cancellation handling, and not Etsy Ads. All four documents were read from a dated Internet Archive capture, because etsy.com serves an anti-bot challenge to automated readers. Check your Etsy account for the amounts actually charged.
